About Us

New Cottage Poultry is ran by myself Joe, with the help of a few family members too. I first started keeping Poultry in 2001, when my Stepdad came home from work with a pair of game bantams. I instantly got the bug and my two little bantams Rocky and Ginger were soon joined by many other hens, ducks, geese and more. I am located in the Midlands near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. I have a real passion for keeping Poultry and am always happy to chat and give any advice if I can. We now have some really interesting birds available, from newly hatched to fully grown bantams, chickens, ducks, geese and more. Please check out our current stock section as this is updated daily. Chicks 

We are always hatching year round and have a really varied range of chicks. We will have breeds that are suited to most people, from the tiny Dutch bantams to giant Brahmas. We usually have guaranteed female chicks in stock; these are certain breeds that can be sexed just after hatching. Rearing your own chicks is perfect for beginners as they can be kept in the house for the first few weeks. This will give you time to handle the little ones and get them used to you. After a short while when

they are feathered, they will be ready to live outside. Some of our breeds of chicks are not able to be sexed at such a young age. However, we will always take back any spare cockerels from you free of charge, if you do not wish to keep them. Our chick starter sets are always available; these include a heat light set, feeder, drinker, food and bedding. All you then need is a box or indoor cage to keep them in. Please note for welfare, we will never sell a bird on its own. We always sell them in two’s or more and recommend that you keep chicks in a group of at least three where possible.

Ducklings And Ducks

​

We usually have female White Campbell and Aylesbury ducklings available. We chose these two breeds as they are great natured, they lay exceptionally well and they are much quieter ducks. We will also have various other breeds of ducklings throughout the year, so please check out current stock, or call us for more details. Just like the chicks, these ducklings will need to be kept under heat for the first few weeks. You can purchase one of our starter packs which has all the items you need to get started. It is a very enjoyable experience raising your own ducklings and we will always be happy to give any advice along the way. Please note for welfare, we will never sell a bird on its own. We always sell them in two’s or more and recommend that you keep ducklings in a group of at least three where possible. Bantams 

​

We have bantams at all ages and in a good variety of breeds. Some of our most popular are the Polish, Pekin, Silkie and Wyandotte’s. These are all lovely natured birds that add real variety to your flock. Bantams are smaller birds and usually preferred by those with smaller gardens, etc. Our point of lay bantams are all fully vaccinated and will be up to date on worming. Pure Breed Hens

​

Our range of pure breed hens will vary during the time of year. We always have something interesting, so have a look at the current stock to find out more. As with all of our birds, they will be up to date on worming, etc and we are happy to clip your hens wings before you take them home. This will stop them flying up onto fences, etc.

Hybrid Point Of Lay Hens 

​

Hybrid point of lay hens come in a wide selection of colours. They are selected for their docile natures and egg production. We have brown, white, green and blue egg layers. These hens are typically 18 weeks old and will be ready to produce eggs shortly after settling in to their new homes. Get in touch to book a visit. You can come and see the hens and choose the right birds for you.

Cockerel Rehoming 

​

If you are looking to give a cockerel a home, please get in touch as we always have a selection of boys available. 

If you have a go at hatching some of your own eggs, or purchased unsexed chicks from us, you are welcome to bring cockerels to us and we will do our best to find them a suitable home. If you have any other poultry that you are needing to re-home, let us know and we can usually pass you on to one of our customers, or even take them in here. Please do ensure that you contact us first, so that we can arrange necessary accommodation for them.

Other Poultry

​

We usually have Japanese and Italian quail available at various ages from newly hatched to point of lay.

Turkey poults, Goslings and Guinea Fowl are available seasonally and we will have a few breeds available.

Courier Delivery 

​

We are able to send any of our poultry via a courier, providing they do not require any heat, etc. We can put you in contact with a third party courier. Typically the courier will charge around £65 for a box that will fit around six adult hens, then each additional box will cost just £10. Please call us to discuss this and we can give you further information.

We will only ever let birds leave our care if we are certain they are in the

best possible health. We are selling livestock and if in the unlikely event of any issues with your birds in the first seven days, then please contact us.
